Ok hes looking better she says the spots drastically have improved. but she said she did a test after adding tonight 5 ml and she couldnt tell if it was 2 ppm or 4ppm the darn color schemes are so close so she did a 10 percent water change to be on the safe side.then we did a test and it clearly read 2.0 ppm hope its ok as u said earlier better to be at 1.5 ppm but were at 2ppm,but you also said that this mardel test isn't as potent as cupermine. so fingers crossed. anyways thanks sep!

We will name this tang after you "Sir Quizzy"

Sir quizzy is doing great most of the spots off the copper read as 2.0 ppm this morning as it did late last night she will test tonight too, I hope you don't mind her calling her tang "Sir quizzy" she likes the name and I mentioned you were a big help in saving this tang !

I am using same copper (coppersafe) in a 10g qt and seachem test kit. I tested the tank water and the readings were to the end of the test scale. So I know that the levels are above 1.0 at least. The fish are all doing well with no signs of stress. Today is day 4 of the treatment and so far all is well. Per coppersafe, the copper will be in a stable state between 1.5.-2.0ppm.
My question to all is whats a safe ppm while using copper? I know this is a broad question, so a guestiment is understandable.
For Coppersafe the level is 1.5-2.0ppm For Cupramine the level is .5ppm.

Copper does not affect ich until it drops off of the fish. They stay attached for 3-7 days. It is not abnormal for spots to still be on him. Don't raise the level.

Continue the treatment for at least another week, some may suggest even longer. Remember that she is also trying to kill the Ich in her DT. If the tang is doing well and is not stressing in the QT, there is no need to rush. Also when she does return the Tang to the DT, she should slow drip acclimate the Tang.

no, treat ich for 4 weeks MINIMUM. BTW, I used coppersafe, Mine is about 2.5 ppm in my 90 gal fowlr perminantly until my carbon removes it (awhile haha).
The ONLY fish affected by it so far have been porcupine and spiny box puffers, everybody else including my dogface are happy as anything. I am going to continue to dose AT LEAST 2.0 ppm of copper in that tank for all eternity, as I have read that as long as I don't have either of those puffers, sit will help as ich preventative.
As for my reef tank, I cannot do that and all fish will be QT'd for 4-6 weeks before entering, fish that go in the 90 gal will be QT'd for only 2 weeks for fungus.

The drip acclimation is to get the Tang acclimated to the DT water params. The Tang would have been in a medicated tank for 3-4 weeks. So its best to slowly acclimate the fish to normal params.
Are there any other fish in the DT?

Ok, was this Tang originally in the DT with the rest of the fish or is it a new addition?
If the Tang was in the DT originally and showed signs of Ich while in the tank, she may risk the chance of introducing it back into an Ich environment.
It (ich) may be dormant if no other fish are showing signs, but because the tank didnt go fallow while the Tang was in QT, the Ich may still be in the tank

The fish has to be in copper for three weeks minimum after the copper has reached the therapeutic level.

I absolutely agree here. If the fish was in the display with ich then ich is in her display.
