One thing i might also do, is replace the bio balls with some live rock rubble. Heard that helps out alot, pretty sure i read it here somewhere on here
yeah i had a friend who recommended using crushed LR instead of the balls too.

yea add rubble but also with chaeto. it helps alot. or if you can just add chaeto. its the best

love the tank btw

IMO do get rid of the bioballs before putting anything (read livestock here) in the tank. Even now they are becoming part of your biofiltration and you may cause a spike in ammonia if you take them out later. Doesn't matter too much now as you are still cycling.
Again IMO do not put rubble in the place of them. Rubble will trap and shed as much detritus as the bioballs if not more and will be much harder to keep clean. Also detritus will fall to the bottom of the chamber that the rock is in and you will not be able to get in there and clean it out. Take Nissan's advice and just add some Chaetomorph and a light back there and you will get much better nutrient export capabilities. If you want more rock put it in the display.

what type of light should i put on it?
any light actually. a 1 watt is good enough. go to home depot and buy one of those waterproof lights and put it in there. in my biocube i have 1 mangrove, bag of chaeto, mud, and a piece of rubble and its great. but for you man just add chaeto. like what spanko said rubble will trap detritus

nothing. you got the jbj nano right? well just take out well the bioballs are and throw the chaeto in there. thats it and your nitrates will stay low. i think i have a pic of my 29g bio idk im check it out
post #28 of 2226
well in the pic its all in a cup but i removed the cup. gonna take a pic of it when i get home. also you may want to add chemipure elite. works like a charm.

the light there is a 7 watt 7200k

So should i take out the Carbon media and Ceramac rings? if not just set it in on top in a cup, with a clip on light?
just remove everything and place a bag of chaeto and a bag of chemipure elite with a clip on light and your set

sounds good.. Something i should do now, or a bit down the road?
well it will be good if you do it now. the sooner the better. if you can try it now. when i started to cycle my tank i had no bio balls at all. i put the chaeto the very next day. so yea try to do it now

Its after a month, I think. Good luck with the tank. Nano Tank section is really good with answering questions, yet the New Hobbiest forum usually is the quickest.

Cheato will help with nutrient export, i.e. nitrates and phosphates. If I say what my biggest mistakes were when I first started, I would recommend getting all live rock together before adding any corals. Also get all the equipment you need first, its cheaper and more headache-free that way.

Theres also a TON of tank diary threads in this forum, so the search feature is a major help, because just about all of us have run into some type of issue before

By the way, the Koralia 1 is a good powerhead, yet I think you may want to consider getting a MJ900 or another K1 and then youll be set for flow. The stock pump used as a return is very weak.
