Sadly ours died last week (pump malfunctioned and caught fire which had a domino effect of other water issues). He would hop along the front of our 200 gallon tank, loved to race back n forth....

Picked up my CB Target Mandarin from our FedEx station this morning. To say I'm disappointed about the condition of this fish is putting it mildly. I've yet to see a fish so skinny and still...

How do you know that? Is there a test for that? I've never seen one.

You people are scaring me to tears...I dreamed last night my tank bowed out and burst and I spent the night trying to save my critters.
Now some chemical I never heard of. So what horrible fear do I worry about now..what is it and how do I know if I GULP, have a problem. Please don't tell me it comes from little aluminum pieces of frozen fish food containers

I had read a post about a 300+ tank bowing out and leaking yesterday, I didn't think it even bothered me. I just really felt sorry for the guy. Menopause again?

Most women just worry about hot flashes., not me...I got a fish tank! How do we know if some weird toxin is lurking in the tank? Some poor fellow just posted about his fish looking all stressed for no reason. Losing the color and acting strange.

If you tank has not been ruuning for a while (more than 2-3 years), than you do not have to worry about this.

Hey loco, is this a rhetorical question or are you exeriencing a problem? Asking because I am of the firm belief that people have had this problem, but how would they know specifically that was the problem.

That was my point to asking. I wanted to know how people have experienced this problem. How they figured it was hydrogen sulfide. I have been doing some research, and most readings tend to make it as it doesn'e really happen in the home aquarium. I mainly want to hear what people here have to say about the subject.

Its is a very rare condition in the home aquarium but it can happen as the result of sever oxygen depletion. The warning sign is the smell of rotten eggs

Yeah see that is what I have been reading. That it really does not happen in the home aquarium. What levels are leathel to fish? And at what levels would you get the "rotten egg" smell? Could it be that in some cases it is released in small amounts and can't be smelled and possible be high enough to kill fish? Could this explain some unexplainable sudden deaths of fish?
