Engineer Goby Owners

Hey ya'll just got my first little guy few days ago. yes yes yes I know all about the rocks and stability and all that.
My question is, how long until your goby came out to say hi?
Mine dug his sand castle and has not come out at all.
Also, what did you feed yours?

Bought mine as a 'baby' and boy did he grow...within 6 months he was a foot long...he ate what I fed the tank-frozen, pellets, even some flake that floated to the bottom. Usually came out only at feeding time, they must have great noses! He also managed to dine on a firefish that passed overnite-found him in the goby's mouth, head first. So they are a bit of a scavenger too. I compared him to an eel, saw the body and the nose sticking out of the rocks, but did not show himself fully. Finally placed him in a friend's larger tank (90g) fun to catch!

I have one and he is a ecutey. The kids named him Spot. He
doesn't come out very often and if he does he on half way
comes out. He does come out when I feed him by hand. He
has a friend which is a flametail blenny they play together and
just sit by each other.

I have a purple dotty back that shares his cave. I saw them both peeking thier head out of the sand castle but then they disappeared.

Mine comes out to eat and when the light is off. It eats flake, brine shrimp and pelletts. Don T.

engineer goby

I have mine for 3 years and it is about 7 inches long now. He comes out at night for a year or so to swim around. Now he only sticks his head out when I feed. Everyone thinks he's an eel!

I fed mine a second engineer goby, Two catalina gobies, a rainfordi Gobie, and possible an Royal Gramma. I Finally caught the little bugger swimming in open water at about 3:30 in the morning one night. I dumped him in a tupperware and went back to bed giggling with happiness.

i am worried about that. I have 2 in a 220 about 5 inches long. I am considering catching them before I RE-Aquascape and moving them to a FO tank.

I bought mine from my LFS about six years ago, and since then he has grown so much that people often mistake him as an eel. He's at least a foot long now, and stays mostly in his caves. He occasionally emerges to eat food that floats downward, but like others, he's rarely fully out of his cave. He also ate two of my firefish gobies and who knows what else, so if you're gonna get another goby to be his tankmate, get a big one!

that brings back memories

I had three of them. they were about a foot or longer and thumb thickness.
when i had them they would chace the 3rd one out of its holes.
when i droped them off at the lfs he put them in to a tank with pepetment shrimp.
the next morning there was three FAT engineer gobys and about 15 less shrimp.
they never snacked on my shrimp but boy they were fat the next day.

ours is almost 2 years old {since the LFS got him} He is a sand sifter, rarely gets to the food in time and almost never seen anything but his head for over a year. Moved him to a new tank without the competition for food...he is fattening up finally {still about 7 inches long ...poor bugger was starving}

Now we turn off the lights at night, wait half an hour and then turn on the blue actinics...he is an active eater at that time and will sometimes come out to free swim and say hi...ours is named Lloyd!

Mine hardly comes out at all and i have had him for 4 years i see him every time i look at the tank but hes not really out i just see his head.
