Bored...starting a 10g Nano

Hey Guys....I have been bored lately....and I happen to have a 10g tank just sitting around collecting dust. I think I will set it up as a little nano...Never done one before, but why not...with all you guys to help...this should be fun! Suggestions, advice etc. will be more than appreciated.
Ok what I have so far:
10g (20in long)
Koralia #1
Large piece of artificial rock (the kind with magnets)
about 10lbs of figi rock curing at the moment.
About to buy a small bag of sand.

Now....what about lights? thinking of nova extreme SLR T-5 (40watt total)? %%
And what about filtration? thinking about the emperor or aquaclear?
Would like to make an area for mangroves and chaeto.

All ideas or suggestions would be helpful....thanks

I'm running an AC70 with the refuge mod... Works great! I have Carbon, the filter media and cheato in there.

Thanks for the replys....what did you do to mod the ac70 curry? I want to put in chemipure and have room for chaeto, etc.

and kats...do you think your lights would be better than the ones i am looking at? I would like a lunar light but I am kind of stuck on my t-5 fixture.

BTW...Nice looking tanks guys, any advice is appreciated. I have a 75g and have never done a nano before...its exciting!!

All I did was remove the media basket and cut part of it to fit the front so nothing flows out (cheato) and that was it.

Filter, Carbon, Chemi-Pure and then my cheato is right on top.

You will have to google "ac70 refugium" since we cant post links... its the second link i think.

Thanks!! I think I might be able to do this!!

Just a note, they way I modded mine was slightly different. I opted to keep the provided filter pad instead of using the thinner filter media he used in his mod which gave him more space. It was less work on my part the way i did it and being lazy it worked out.. LOL

Good luck!

Alright....15lbs of sand is in.. ..heater in.... and I decided to try the penguin filter with the biowheel and I might try to mod it for chaeto...couldnt help it...it was on sale for like 12 bucks!! I normally do 20gal water changes every two weeks on my 75..so I will just do a couple gallons more for this little tank...anyways....tank is really cloudy...will take a pic once its better.....getting excited.....

This is a great idea, I think I may try this with my marineland 100 HOB wheel (I think theres enough room and then just remove the lid for lighting).

Anyways I'll be tagging along, I'm in a similar process of set up right now on a 5.5 gallon.

I'm curious, do yo uwant the chaeto/mangrove to be in the main tank? Would you maybe be dividing it with some plexiglass for two seperate portions to the tank?

You know...I was thinking of that.(putting the mangrove in the main tank) Since there shouldn't be anything in there to bother it. I will try to put the chaeto in the filter or something, not sure yet..

no doubt to go with the t5 fixtures. ull have room for upgrading just in case u ever want sps. if not, u can always use t5 for better coloration

Well, this is what it looks like so far....I am not happy with the aquascape right now so I will be adding more rock. I used odd pieces that I couldn't use in my 75. I will be ordering my T-5's soon... sorry about the bad pic..

Ok..added the koralia #1. and ran some tests.

Here goes:
temp-78
sp. gravity-1.024
ph-7.8 (wonder if it's the new bag of salt giving me these ph issues)
ammonia-between 0 and 0.25
nitrite- between 0 and 0.25
nitrate-0

And we're off to wait out the cycle.
