clownfish spawned but no eggs?

I have a pair of perc clowns that I keep in a forty gallon tank. The water conditions are good, they have a varied diet including hufa supplementation twice weekly and seem in good condition. I came home the other day to find them spawning in their cave but there are no eggs to be found. I originally thought the eggs were white because the area they were spawning on was becoming white but I found out the eggs should be orange. What happened? they seemed to be spawning normally.

It may take them several attempts for the new lovers to get it right. If the eggs are not fertilized properly they will just be eaten.

When you say spawning, do you mean the male was shaking? If so, he's showing submission to the female, mine do this but are much to young to mate. It doesn't always mean they'll mate, so I've been told, but it is a sign.

I am sure they were spawning. The female's egg tube was out and she was rubbing her belly on the tile and shaking at the same time. He would then go over the spot, they would both turn around and "clean the area" but now I am wondering if they weren't eating the eggs.

Well, like Bang Guy said they need to practice before they get it right. Congrats on your pair though. Any tankmates that might eat their eggs?

I agree with above. They will most likely eat the eggs the first spawn. Give them a couple tries to get it right

Thank you for the info, it's a relief toknow that this behavior probably won't be an ongoing thing. In answer to your question, they are the only fish in the tank. I have heard that they can be bred in much smaller tanks but I am thinkin' now that they are starting their spawning cycle I will leave them in their original tank.

Can't seem to start a new post on here so hopefully someone will see this. I have a pair of orchid dottybacks that have recently spawned, unfortunately, I have also recently treated the tank for ich which I inadvertently introduced. I am now treating with cuprimine at a level of .5. Will this affect the eggs?
