14G Oceanic BioCube Lighting Upgrade Suggestions

One of the ballasts went bad in my BioCube. While I have the opportunity, I'm thinking of upgrading the lighting. Not that anything is wrong with the PCs for this tank, but the ballast replacement is like $80, so just exploring options.

I love the hood and the entire tank being enclosed, because I can keep a jumper in this tank (Like my Yasha Goby) without having to worry about it. I don't like fishnet tops, so it's hood or open top, no net.

What do you guys recommend?

BTW: I'm totally cool with the idea of modding the hood if I can keep it and you guys have some good suggestions.

have you contacted the manufacturer? They are pretty good about sending out replacements without cost to you.

Yeah. It's over a year old, so no more warranty. They want $80 for a replacement ballast. I can buy a brand new BioCube for 150 at my LFS,so just exploring options.

Take a look at some of these LED setups. This is what I plan on doing as soon as I get my tank more established. (And all of the parts :) )
