so i have a pair of clown fish, How do they breed? How can i encourage breeding?

First of all, the bigger one is always the female, it can take a few weeks, to a few years for them to breed, ive geard anenomes can encourage breeding, and they will lay eggs near the anenome. Ive heard of moonlights stimulating breeding. If you hatch them, hear is a good site http://www.breedclownfish.com/

What is a geared anemones? Is that a type?

Something else i have noticed, is my clownfish is taking alage off my rocks, i have never seen it pick at the rocks like that, in fact it has a piece of alage in its mouth with part of a crushed coral attached to the hair alage.. Why is it doing that?

moonlights don't really help stimulate breeding. You have to have a simulated lunar cycle. Most imporant things that aid breeding are, food variety, times of feeding and having lights on a strict schedual. Sometimes it can take years for a pair to breed.

This info is what i have gained from online research. I am not a marine biologist.

This could be a good sign. Clownfish will clean an area of rock to lays eggs on! If you want to raise them, you will need a seperate tank, live rotifers, and brine shrimp eggs, for starters!!

From what I have gathered if you plan on breeding you should have a tank setup and fully cycled before adding the fry (similar to having a QT tank). I have a breeding pair of Yellow Watchmans, so I have been taking in tons of information from people that used to breed. I really don't plan on trying to raise the fry anymore after I learned what I did....though YW fry are smaller than clowns, so they have more specialized food requirements that I just don't plan on spending the $$ to get going either. I would suggest you try out http://www.marinebreeders.org (not any kind of competators site) as well. They have tons of info on breeding all kinds of marine fish. It might be another resource for you to look at.
