NEW CONTEST ... read for details

Ok, the forums need some participants and I want to help. I used to love the photography section so I am starting here. Now this is new for me so I will work on the details for a little while before the actual contest begins. My thinking is to award a prize based on the best picture of a coral that is chosen. So if I choose "best toadstool" then the contest will be based on that. Now I said "I" but my thinking is to ask 3 other members here of my choice to vote. So first I will need to find some voters which shouldn't be a problem.

Secondly, I would hope to get pics of your coral that is authenic and not photoshoppd. This will be on the honor system and the prize is really about having fun and get bragging rights in hopes to avoid cheating.

I plan to start a prize with a $25 gift certificate to SWF.com if they offer gift certificates. If not I will send you $25. My hopes is this will be popular and after the first contest that someone else will start another.

Anyway, the starting point is to see if anyone is interested in doing something like this. If there are folks interested in doing this, the details will follow.

I like the idea,but why limit it to corals(which IMO are easy to capture,plus i don't have any..lol).I have alot of great action shots of fish though..good luck with it

Cause it's my contest!

No seriously, this is just a start to see how it goes. If it is sucessful, I will do another one and it won't always be just coral. Glad to see some folks are in. I will soon get some judges and finalize the rules.

Sorry, I knew what you meant. I meant to say who to contact as in email addy. I guess it would be a good idea to get the all clear before I get it started.

sounds like a good idea to me. I wish swf.com would do some more contents.. even a $5 gift card would make me jump up and take pics :)

I honestly like the idea of best SINGLE item pic.
Let me see if I understand correctly: For instance, if this month is FROGSPAWN month, we take pics of our frogspawns that may be simply just an amazing looking frogspawn, or the frogspawn doing something out of the norm.. or a clown peeking its head out of the frogspawn. Correct?

I also don't see why we couldn't end up doing this for other single items down the road if the idea catches on.. This month coral, next month a anthias, month after a brittle star...

Bravo.

Yep, you have the right idea. I am going to follow Cran's advice and get permission and then we can work out the details.

I just really hope that the participants will avoid altering their pics and only post pics from their tank.

Sounds like a good idea, but SWF might not go for it, just a hunch.

On a site that I mod, we do this each month and the prize is a free frag which is named at the beginning of each contest. The entire site gets 5 days to vote and you can't win more than once in 6 months.

I would try posting a thread in "Ask Saltwater Fish" with an ATTN: Scott on it. He's fairly quick about replying. I know some people have had issues with e-mails.
