Hey, Shrimpy lol.

Glad to have ya aboard.

Man, I don't know what I'd do without home improvement/building stores. Sometimes I just go to walk around on my lunch breaks just so I can get my fix lol. Wish we were in a house so I could take on some more projects but it's kind of hard to beat getting free rent and utilities and a pretty spacious townhouse through the wifes job.

I'm not even allowed to touch the stove let allown a torch in a kitchen...now, a torch in the dinning room, that's another story

The marine paint was another option I had been considering too. Then again, you're mention of the polyeurathane got me thinking about a polycrylic finish over white stain...hmmmm.

Yeah...I fell behind a bit because of my b/day lastweekend. Gonna run out after work today and pick up a new sander, my old one kicked the bucket. I believe I've decided to go with a waterborne epoxy paint for the frame and interior. So I'm going to work on that and and get the last of the frame finished up so that I can start working on the skin. Should have some more pics by the weekend.

Update:

So I got a little more work done on the stand today. I cut the plywood for the top and the back of the stand. I Also added a horizontal piece across the back. Then cut out the area where the plumbing will go. I still have some sanding to do before paint tommorow but at least it's starting to look a little more like a stand now.

A few more...

Some pics of the panel for the electrical. Going to add in 6 outlets and 6 switches. I just have everything mocked up right now. I'll be pulling the plywood off of the top and back tommorow so that I can paint the entire frame and interior sides of the plywood.

So I decided on the interior finish. Origionally was thinking of going with a white epoxy finish. But ended up getting a really sweet deal through a friend. So now I'll be going with a 2 part, porcelain white, urethane enamel paint. Supposedly it's supposed to set with a really tough finish that is second only to powdercoating for it's durability. It's much more u.v. resistant so it won't yellow out over time. And on top of that I got the paint, the curring agent, a can of thinner, roller handle and the speical mohair roller covers for the low low price of $0 dollars...yes, that's right, count em...$0 dollars. Sometimes it pays to have friends in the right places.

Thanks, Mike. Actually, I am going to use the european hinges. I agree, they will give it a much cleaner look. I was just having a brain fart earlier in the thread and couldn't think of the name lol.

I've got some last minute preperations to do here today to get it ready for the paint. This stuff that I'm using to paint/protect the inside is pretty strong smelling so I've got a buddy coming over to help carry it outside to do the work. Should have some more pics by tonight.

Made a little more progress today. After deciding that it was way to hot outside to take the stand out and work on it, I decided to do it inside. Pluss I didn't want anything to blow onto the finish and get it dirty. So I wrapped the dinning room up in plastic and went to town. First applied a thin coat of primer...used Killz in a spray can since it dries quick. Next I mixed up the the Urethane Enamel Paint. Went with the recommended portions of hardner and thinner. After applying the first coat it soaked into the wood so quick that I just decided to go ahead and apply the second coat right on top of it instead of waiting. I don't think it will be much of an issue.

After the 2 light coats I let it set a bit and then put the top and back panel back on to the stand and went around with a brush and touched up all of the corners. I'll give everything a few days to set the way that it is and then I'll give it a light sanding and seal up all the seams on the inside before applying the 3rd coat. On the 3rd coat I plan on using half of the recommended dose of thinner...therefore applying a thicker coat. Then once that sets I'll sand it again and put a 4th coat on without any thinner and tweak the dosage of hardner up just a bit if I feel that I can get away with it. Probably just have to work really fast.

Anyway, here's the shots...after just 2 light coats you can already see a really glossy finish. I figure by the end of the last coat it should look like the inside of the stand is coverd in glass.
