Yes, I have done the inital mix in the QT tank a few times before. If you looking to get it right on the first time, I find it more easy to mix my standard water change batch or up scale it so the QT tank is really colse.

If you buy from a LFS its good to get the QT tank to the salinity of the LFS so the fish doesn't go through quite as much stress. Then again you should be aclimating them proper anyway. Which IMO is via the drip method.

So here's another question that I believe was already answered at one point... but with my QT... can I add 2 clown fish at the same time to let them go through the whole process? Or can I only add one fish at a time? If I can add 2, then my next question would be, can I add multiple types of fish just as long as I don't crowd the QT?

I like to keep the speciecs seperate. So a pair of clowns is ok in fact a good thing if you want a pair. Buy them at the same time. A schol of chromis or any other type of fish is ok IMO. I say this cause you don't want one sick fish to affect the other non sick fish. That's the whole point of a QT in the first place. Plus, doing too many in the QT will make for bad water real quick since there isn't any filtration. Likewise on the other side of that coin. Once they're all done with QT, you don't want to bomb your DT with a heavy bio load.

Got it. So then I'll get both the clowns when I go to the LFS. Is there any way I can ask to get a male and female or is it kind of just by luck to get a pair?

Clownfish change gender as they mature. The larger, dominant clownfish becomes female. You can get mated pairs as well.

I agree with Gemmy.

Mated pairs will cost more money. However as stated, when it comes too pairs the female is the largest. Should the female die and another smaller clown is added.....the old male will become the female and the new smaller clown will become the male ONCE they become a pair.

I have two mis-barred clowns that get along great while the lights are on. But when the lights go out they go to opposite ends of the tank. I think they are waitng for my LTA to get bigger. Its plate is only about the size of a half dollar. They just hover and stare at it some times.
