What is on my LIVE ROCK??!

I'm new to saltwater and i've been reading all i can about this stuff. I just started my 36 gallon about a month ago and my neighbor was willing to give me some live rock, so i could not say no. The live rock was straight out of his tank, but there is a red/purple thick hair-like stuff growing on the rock. Right now the rock has only been in my tank for about a week now. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, in fact it looks pretty cool. I'll post some pictures because it doesn't really look like some algae that I've seen when researching. And if it helps pH- 8.0, ammonia- 0, Nitrates- .50 ppm, Nitrites- 0, and temp- 77 F

Thanks for any help!!
