Joe's Juice

So, I used the Joe's Juice last night on the aipastia I could find (I found PLENTY more this morning).  When I had used it, the juice left a white power or something like that on the rock.  I figured that the powder would go away after a few hours, but this morning I took a look at it and it's still there.  Did I do something wrong, or will it go away on its own?  Basically it looks as if I had placed a pile of sugar right on the spot where the juice was.  It told me to shake it up before using it and I did just that.  Any comments?

Just use a little bit, and don't worry about what remains...it will eventually float away..or wear off...I have never removed any residual leftovers from my tank

More importantly, did it work?  Are they dead and gone?

To be honest, I don't know.  The white coating is still over where they were so I'm assuming they've had to have eaten it at some point... which leads me to believe they're dead.  These pain in the butt aipastia's keep popping up all over the place though... I keep finding more and more and more as the days go on.  Are butterfly fish reef compatible?  I hear they eat aipastia's like it's their job!

NO....butterfly fish are not

How are your test readings????   Staying at 0??

Sounds like you should get some peppermint shrimp with your first cuc addition

I haven't checked in a day or two... I'll do that tonight once I get home.

OK...Now shrimp are sensitive, BUT, they are also part of your cuc....keep using the juice, and think about 5 peppermints in your initial cuc order

Ok.  Well of course, I probably won't be getting any CUC for the next week or two.  However, do they need to be fed?  Or do they just eat the coraline and algee?  With CUC in there will I have to do the weekly water changes?  This is all of concern to me because I will be away for 2 weeks.  The last thing I want is for my girlfriend to take time out of her day when she didn't sign up to do this in the first place.  I'd have everything else ready as far as water top off.  I told her I'd have 20 gallons ready and wrote on the sump where the water needs to reach during top off.  I told her she shouldn't have to do any cleaning or any feeding as long as I don't have fish by then.  But will that still be the case if I get CUC?  I failed to mention the skimmer will need cleaning... I already cleaned it one time... and boy... that was not a pleasant smell.

When are you going away?   Might as well just wait till you get back....cuc should be able to live off the GUNK in the tank and on the rock....you said you had diatoms starting....It probably wouldn;t hurt to toss them a crumb though    LOL

Depends on the CUC you get.  Those brittle stars are needing food.  I would imagine that some shrimp will need something to compliment their algea intake.

Well if you're saying all I would have to do is feed them by tossing in a piece of food then I can have her do that once or twice a week or however much needed.  As long as I wouldn't have to have her do water changes...

Monisour, I shouldn't have to feed them anything at this point.  They should be able to live off of the live rock right now.  They're tiny little guys that seem like they have food within the rocks.

Yes, I remember reading someone saying they don't do water changes.  I would do that, but with my luck the tank would crash a week into it haha.  Since I've had the tank up and running I've been like a little school boy wanting to get home and look at my tank haha... I feel so young. =]

So, I figured out why it seems like these aipathias look like they're already starting to spread.  The reason?... Well, I just found out that they hide from me once the canopy hood is open.  These little f&#^@#s make it next to impossible to know where they are when they shrink into their holes.  So I knocked 3 or 4 of them out... there is still probably about 2 or 3 in there but finally I said I give up.  When levels stablize I'm getting 100 peppermints to kill those little pests!  Ok, so maybe not 100... but definatly 5 of them so they can do my dirty work.

Another question... my water evaporation is rather intense today and yesterday.  It's already getting close to the point where the return will suck in air if I lose another inch or two... in this case since I have a 125 (possibly 150 from what some have said on this forum) can I dump filtered water from my fridge (maybe like 1 gallon) into my tank?  Or is that going to cause a disaster?

I thought you bought an ro unit?      Can't you get a container and keep some ro made up?????

Would I use fridge water...NO
