I just bought a clip on lamp... it only allows for 60w though... I hope that's fine. My super glue also came undone on my egg crate in the refugium... so I just decided to use duct tape to keep it up... should that be ok?

My LPS 20gal. reef has been running under this fixture now for 1 year 1 month. All corals never lost any of there coloring nor bleached from the cross over. Matter a fact my Xenia's have...

Sadly ours died last week (pump malfunctioned and caught fire which had a domino effect of other water issues). He would hop along the front of our 200 gallon tank, loved to race back n forth....

Picked up my CB Target Mandarin from our FedEx station this morning. To say I'm disappointed about the condition of this fish is putting it mildly. I've yet to see a fish so skinny and still...

I don't think i'd use the duct tape. It could leach the adhesive chemicals into the water. Besides duct tape will not hold for very long in wet areas. They make a product called Weld-On which is an industrial strength adhesive, or Gorilla Glue would probably work. I used the Weld-On stuff on the eggcrate in my sump and had it running for 2 weeks without any problems before I dissasembled the sump.
Wattage is not the important factor for a fuge light. Color temperature is what is key. Lots of people will through any old light on there and say it works fine but the truth of the matter is that you want a true grow light. And like I mentioned before a bulb with a 6,500K color temperature is the optimal choice for best growth with your chaeto.

Duct tape???? Probably looks bad...and will not stay stuck if it gets wet
try epoxy.....I got this stuff from Home Depot called Aqua Mend....and I am telling you....NOTHING will escape its grip LOL
I even used it in my swimming pool
.....When I first got my sump....it had a tiny crack in the corner....we put this stuff on it....never had another issue
I also buy some stuff called Hold Fast Epoxy Stick from a place online.....google it.....you will find it
That I use for glueing my corals down

Yeah that'll work just fine. From the studies I've seen 6,500 is optimal for chaeto but 5,000 is close enough and will still work.

Joe's Juice and Aiptasia X did nothing for me. I got 2 peppermint shrimps that killed all the aiptasia I had in my tank. They (shrimp) have disappeared in the last 3 weeks and I have noticed there are a few aiptasia sprouting. Time to get more.

Yeah, the Joe's Juice has disolved and I can see the aiptasia's surfacing again. I think the peppermint shrimp will be part of my first big purchase with the CUC.

The aiptasia-x worked on almost all of the ones I had. I have one left that is seriously deformed but still alive. I will have to get a pic of it so that ya'll can suggest the best way to tackle it. I was already planning on including peppers in my first batch of CUC so even if this last one does die, I will still be getting the shrimp.

Actually one of the ones I was trying to kill I noticed today looks to be twice to three times the size it was when I first found it. Also, good news! My ammonia levels are down to .25... I'm going to check it out again tomorrow evening hopefully to see that it's 0. I'm also going to leave my light on all night in the refugium so I can feed my Macro Algae some extra light that it's been neglected from. I'll probably shut it down in the morning but it will have been running for a good 15 hours or so.

Yeah, I have one left over since I don't use a timer on the actinics... but the timer boxes are just too flippen big! I can't fit two of them on my surge protector... I might try and look around for smaller ones if there is a such thing.

Sorry, kinda old thread...
Youy might shine a light in the back of the tank at night. my guess is your peppermints are in there, they hide and I only see mine about once a month wehn I catch him out at night or I look in his little cave I can only see in from the back of the tank.
They stop eating aiptasia after they start getting used to feeding off of the goodies you give your fish..

I think I will do that again tonight...I have tried before but never saw anything. But the flashlight I was using was pretty crappy. I have a new super bright one I can use. I hope they are alive. Those few sprouting up (aiptasia) have disappeared...so there may be hope
