Red Sea Max 130D or BioCube 29 or NanoCube 28 LED ? This is going to be my first time setting up a sw tank so I want to start small and after few years start getting in to bigger tank after I gain experience.

What made you sell the LED setup? Not enough light for coral, or was it something else?

And in another thread, did they (flameangel26) mention that it was a 14G BioCube, that only comes with PC's.
The LED nano's just aren't cutting it for a lot of people. They're great in the beginning but then corals loose all their color and people start complaining and end up getting a clip on halide setup just as Nissan did.
I love my 14G BioCube, but I've removed the stock lighting and put a MH on it.
As for the OP, since he's planning on using this tank for awhile to get some experience, I would go with the BioCube or the Red Sea. For some reason, I just don't like the JBJ systems that much, but honestly, it's just personal taste. Many people start with BioCube setups and are very happy with them.
I think i am going to go with 29G BioCube since I could get the tank and stand for under $600.00. On craiglist I found some used one for under 400 with stand. I really like Red Sea but I dont see the point of spending extra 200 bucks. I could use the extra money to buy live rocks and sand. :)

They're a nice system. One of the good things about all the nano cube tanks is that you can upgrade little things on them fairly easy. For example, once you're more experienced, you may want a better lighting system, the hood is easy to remove and you can replace it with a clip on halide (which many of us have done).
Good luck!

We have a few "plug-n-play" setups, and they all have their own quirks. However, the one I can say that i DON'T recommend is the JBJ NC 28 because it's curvature causes a lot more distortion than the others. This may not be an issue for most folks, but we take a lot of photos, and it's virtually impossible to get a decent image thru the front of the NC 28. I'm glad we just use it as a QT/growout tank.
To be honest, you'll learn more about the nuts and bolts of the hobby by getting a std tank and setting it up yourself (you'll likely save some money too). That being said, the plug-n-play systems do go up in a snap and make pretty little setups.

Do you know how bright is BioCube HQI light? If I go with BioCube 29G ( Not HQI ) is there a way I could install higher output lights? the reason why I am asking is because in future I would like to setup corals.
thanx

But BioCube does make HQI which is the question. The HQI is a 10K 150watt bulb. I have the regular BioCube and upgraded to a clip on 150 watt halide light and just removed the original hood that houses the PC lights. It's actually cheaper to purchase the regular BioCube and then buy a clip on halide most of the time.

We have a BC 24 with a 150W HQI. It came as a "set", but the HQI is an after-market unit that fits over the tank and there's a glass lid over the tank. Because it's a grow-out tank for a couple of scorpionfish, I don't use the HQI anymore, just the blue and white LED's on the fixture.
