I think I found why my tank is struggling, I have been testing lfs has been testing, everyboby comes back with good #'s. fish all seem fine, the only thing someone noticed was the ro\di holding tank has a brass valve on it, so yesterday took it off and replaced it with pvc. now I wait for the tank to fill so I can do a few large water changes.

Have you/the LFS used a copper test (Seachem, Sailfert, Elos)? And actually saw readings indicating there was copper in the tank?

there are absorbant products on the market to pull the copper out of the water. Running carbon would also help.

no we never tested for copper, this is a stab in the dark all i had to do was change out to a pvc drain no big deal. now after a couple of water changes we will be able to tell.

I would test. I doubt a little valve would harm that much, although it's god to have changed it just in case.

You can run a poly filter BUT as TommieLynn stated I do not think your valve leached out any copper that was detrimental to your tank
