zoanthids bothering soft coral?

First, I do not have a lot of experience with keeping a saltwater and am learning as much as I can as I go along.  I got this tank a few months ago and it was already established.  This soft coral in the pic seems to be really unhappy.  I have tested the water and it appears fine. I have had the water tested and they also say it's fine.  But this coral just never seems happy.  Could it be the zoanthids growing out the base?  Thanks for any input

Run a little carbon to stave off any chemical war the corals may be having. It doesn't look all that unhappy. Also Kenya tree coral have times when they just look aweful, after a short time they perk back up and look great.

Ok, thank you.  I will do that.  You're right, in the picture he doesn't look all that unhappy. I had to wait until he was perked up to get a picture of the base, but sometimes he is just way bent over and looks horrible.. but yes he does perk back up.  I didn't know that was "normal".  Thanks again

I wonder if Kenya is in the leather coral group??? Leathers shed skin that looks like mucus when they feel attacked or have algae on them and look like they are dying, but perk back up like nothing was wrong after a few days. I have never noticed any shedding from Kenya but they do seem to go through stages.

Thank you for the information. I didn't even know it was a kenya tree coral!  I looked up "pink soft coral" several different ways but couldn't narrow it down.. everything in this tank was put there by somone else so I have no Idea what was or is in there. ( unless I look it up by description and figure it out)   I find new things all the time.. I did notice there was a strange, stingy something coming off of it, it kind of looked like stringy cooked egg white.  So you may be right about the shedding .Then I read that I need to be careful when topping off the tank.. I  usually add water in the filter area so it can disperse but being as the tank is so small (12 gal)  it may have had too much contact with fresh water.. seems to be doing fine now though.

I have this same coral, I thought it was called colts though. Hmmm maybe I'm mistaken.

Colt Coral (cladiella sp)   and Kenya Tree (Capnella)   are very similar....I have both and have to look closely to tell them apart

the colt tends to shed, and the Kenya does not.....Kenya spreads like the wind LOL...Colt is a little slower....colt is bushier with smaller polyps...Kenya is more tree like and branchy

I see. I had one little branch and my butterfly nipped on it and it spread various parts of my tank lol.

I don't mind it at all. Looks very natural and nice and I like it because it's very low maintenance.

Getting back to the topic, (sorry OP) if they are similar, your fine because mine sulks all the time too when the parameters are perfect.

It just comes back whenever it feels like it.
