High Nitrates - Page 2

another thing you could so is move your rock and fish to a rubbermaid tub. Stir up the sand and filter until you dont see anymore waiste. add your bottom layer of rock, and let your tank settle for a few days. check your water readings. You may have a small cycle from this, but your fish will be ok in the tub as long as you keep a small filter on it.

Whoo hoo a reason to partyparty.gif.  No my nitrates levels are not any lower, but I just read  I can lower them with Vodka.  I just read to open a bottle of 80 proof and put some in my tank.rotfl.gif  I can share a bottle of Absolut with my wet pets.

If I play this out right my shrimp and I will be dancing and I won't care what my readings are.

Hope ths works  wish me luck  thumbsup.gif

Be safe all and God Bless

I hope your not jumping into vodka dosing - that's a long process to get started, and you have to get everything right, and keep a daily log of nitrates - it surely is not an overnite fix, more like it takes a month to get going.

I am not ready to pour perfectlly good vodka in my tank.  I would use it to lower my  stress levels before i would worry about the stress of my tank.

I am sorry, I noticed people don't joke much on this site, so I have to be careful what I say.  I always try to find humor it things but never at anyone elses expense. i laff at myself to try and keep a good attitude abouth things.

I do not even have a skimmer and that is the first piece of equipment required to do the Vodka dosing.

I will try hard to refrain from the humor,

There are plenty of jokesters on the site.  I have never seen anyone EVER taken down for joking or playing around so no worries.  If there is a case of someone being addressed, it's most likely because it is mean spirited towards another member or the site in general.  Someone popping in here and there may not see the day to day jabs this person makes and may only see the last straw, the one that broke the camels back.

You just said something that kind of rang a bell with me: "No skimmer." so... do you have a refugium that grows a fair amount of macroalgae that your harvesting? If not - either get a fuge or get a skimmer. Either one is better than none at all.
