This is why I hate box stores....

....even the "good" ones.

This was one of the "tank raised seahorses" (looks like a kuda with that swept coronet) I found at All Fish Emporium (ex-Big Al's).  One the one hand, my initial instinct was to try and save him; on the other, I knew I had neither the time or the resources to attempt treatment....and he may be too far gone anyway.  You can't see it, but her had bubbles all along his tail as well.

If you're going to sell an animal, you should be prepared to treat sick specimens, or man up and euthanize animals who are too far beyond help.  Some poor kid is going to buy this, thinking it's a "special" horse, only to watch it die.  flaming.gif

saddy.gif This is also why I do a lot of my shopping online. None of the LFS around me have good husbandry practices.

flaming.gif I wonder if the store owner even knows it's sick. One LFS by me had seahorses for sale, it's the only store that ever did. They didn't even know what kind, when I asked, he said "I THINK Redi". I think he had around 6 and I don't think they sold more than 2 at $99.00 each, the rest died. I wonder the fate of those that were sold. I also wonder if they were tank raised or wild caught and needed live food.

FWIW, the SH is H. erectus, but it has a nasty bacterial infection.

I bet they're keeping the SH too warm, which could be the reason for it.

They should get the SH down to 68*F and treat it with Furan 2, but that's beside the point.

Don't "save it"...maybe if they lose the SH, they won't keep them.

I'm sure the temperatures are too warm, and of course multiple tanks are plumbed together so we can share all sorts of pathogens.

I'm sure they won't stop selling horses just because one dies.  I don't shop here for livestock, but I come in from time to time for dry goods sales.  Seeing animals like this makes me rethink even that  decision, however.

Soo Sad

I have this one LFS next to me that has a very good variety, but due to the AWFUL quality of care they give to their animals, I ABSOLUTLEY REFUSE to set foot in there.

Even though my local fish friends always try to push me in there, I always REFUSE. It's just awful- half of the fish in there were DEAD.... and the other 1/4 had some awful HLLE, and the othe r1/4 had some other awful disease.
