Alkalinity unit of measurement

Thread Starter

What unit of measurement do the folks here refer to when talking about Alkalinity?  I see meq/L,  DKH, English degree of hardness, and PPM.  I have the calulations to convert,  but when in a conversation here what units do you refer too.

While on the subject, what do you consider good, or bad reads, and how often do you test?

I prefer Meq/L when referring to Alkalinity but PPM ad dKH are equally understood.

IMO 3.5Meq/L is a good target level for the average tank.  Lower is fine for the larger tanks or automatic Alkalinity replenishment.
