Hey tangs, remember when we were qt'g the yellow and blue tangs and we were baffled on what the #$%^ was going on because it wasn't ick at all? I recall you saying put in the cups with pvc, why the cups again? just to hide right?

yes to hide.i read tangs used cups so i added one and the fish prefer the coffee cup to the pvc

Yeah - I've found that some dark coffee cups do very well to provide fish shelter. Fish see color is some degree, varying by species, and varying by ability - but a solid white (pvc) arena seems to stress them more - where some dark "cave" areas really provide neat "safe" feeling places for them.  I long ago left behind using liverock and substrate in qtine tanks - as it really benefits (provides) parasites more benefit than the fish(s).... I know it's a bare/rough existance for the fishes but it's only temporary.  The goal of qtine being saving the fish, while running the parasites to extinction.

He was likely using the Neptune Apex - it'll do all of that & send your phone alarm if things go bad with your tank while away - though you must programm this feature.
