Did you acclimate them and if so how?

Could be the change in light from the old tank to the new. If where you place the coral in your tank has more light, then the coral does not need to puff-up as much. So if it is right under the MH try moving it away some and it should open up more.
If the coral is getting blasted by to much water flow it will try and shrink down. So a move to less flow may allow it to open up more.

I don't want you to trust that LFS EVER AGAIN! What horrible advice.. that's where all your troubles are coming from!

Most corals only need to be temperature acclimated....I fully acclimate mine regardless

BUT...the important thing here is what GEO asked about the lighting.....corals also have to be acclimated to different lighting

what lighting WERE they under, and what lighting are they NOW under?

I drip acclimate anything that goes in my tank. Also when I by a coral I note what kind of lighting and water flow it is under at the lfs.
