brain for 145 gallon with 2 250 watt metal halides on 14 hours a day

So the title is the question would an open  brain work in a tank like this and are they easy to keep alive.

Well there is enough lighting but more tank specifics are needed... what are your nitrates usually at?

You can only try and see!

 

Your lighting is good. Just depends on how healthy your tank is and if you have some good water quality.

Around 40 to 30 is that Ok. Also are the open brains good for novices at hard corals?

It's a moderate- moderate harder coral... nitrates are a little high for them... and they need calcium and iodine.

Never heard of a brain coral needing iodine. That's new to me. :D

 

Rainbow - I think you need to try to get your nitrates down much, much lower. Usually, most corals are tolerant of nitrates less than 5ppm long term. You should really figure out what is causing so much nitrate or increase your water changes and filtration methods.

For corals, it's a lot of nitrate... for a FOWLR... they're great! LOL...

well im giving up the brain anyway since my substrates not soft enough
