So, after reading up on these creatures I decided it was safe to introduce a new resident and friend to Draco. Meet Tanis, meaning "Lady Serpant"

these two have been together ever since, only seperated for a very short periods of time then they find eachother. Tanis met the percalin crap and was not thrilled by it Lol.

i know ya'll like pics .............so enjoy!

From what I understand, the males are more colorful than the female. i know that the male pipes carrt the eggs. Coral magazine had covered the pipe fish a couple of months ago, but I let my fish guy use it.

You may have better luck locating part one due to you saavy internet skills. This reading was informative, but I ended up reading coral magazine and other sites before making my mind up. Spanko, they are indeed great animals to watch in your little ocean.

wow! The pipefish is amazing! It looks like a hybrid between an eel and a seahorse. To be honest, I had no idea what a Pipefish actually was so I had to 'google' it...now I understand why they are under the same section as Seahorses. Just out of curiosity, can you put them in the same aquarium? Were your two Pipefish automatically drawn to each other?

Keep the pictures coming!

Also....Happy 36th anniversary Spanko!

Tirtza---Kiefer's wife here, he has class tonight so I am answering for him.  It took about an hour for them to find each other.  They were inseperatable for the first 2 days.  Now they seem to be going their separate ways occassionally but they seem to know where the other one is and they meet back up for a while.  I'm sure the Draco (1st pipe) was overjoyed to see another pipe.  The new pipe, Tanis, was probably just happy to see something familiar in a new tank--lol.  When I got home from work last night the lights were off and they were intertwined in the corner of the tank with their faces together.  It was soooo cute.  I'm really glad we got the second pipe. I love how their eyes move. We have a total of 9 tanks in our house (5 saltwater, including the QT and 4 fresh).  Out of all the fish we have, these two are my favorite.   We didn't tell the kids we got a second pipe, they were gone for the weekend.  We are waiting to see how long it will take for them to notice.  Maybe we should start a pool.  I'm betting 2 weeks.  Unless of coarse Paidey happens to come on here and sees the post--lol.  She would be mad.

LOL----Sorry honey but I've got to give you a hard time.  Tanis "met percalin crap"???  haha don't you mean porcelin crab?  That is what happens when your typing at 1:30am.

Tirtza - Yes pipes and seahorses are compatible, BUT most pipes are wild caught and most people keep captive bred horses. Mixing wild with captive bred, you take a big chance on your horses catching something from the pipes. Captive bred horses haven't been exposed to the same pathogens and in such a closed system, they are very susceptible to bacterial infections. .

Just for referance
