I think this is going to be a long build. I just  want to take my time and do things right. My time is also getting more limited between work and school.

Don't worry about it... those are usually the best.

Not really. I have been working 60+ hours a week and I am a full time student. Right now my time is stretched pretty thin. I hope to get the rock wall built this week.

Ok then.

The only update I have is that the tank is clear and I am just waiting for the foam to come in, so I can make the rock wall. I am starting to get impatient. It better be here by Wednesday.

Even a non-update is still an update.  thumbsup.gif  In the meantime, have you picked out the rock you're going to use?  Do you plan on making an entire wall against the back, or will there be some "clean glass" space in there as well?

Ace hardware carries it around here...have you checked the hardware stores?

Home depot and lowes also carries the black foam. Might be able to find it there...

I think there will be some "clean glass" space. I have some dry rock that I will be using for the wall. I might add some PVC pipe for tunnels for my TBD fish to swim through.

I wasn't having luck finding it in stock at the hardware stores.

I found it 6 bucks cheaper online. :)

Dumb question: Can I get some macro now? The tank has been up for a week and I have a piece of live rock in it.

Macro's love to consume ammonia.  I wonder if that might hinder bacterial growth.

I agree with Corey.  You'll probably be better off allowing most of the cycle to complete before you add your macros.

It sounds like you're cycling the tank almost the way I did.  I cycled a sterile tank with just dry rock in the foam structure.  It definitely took longer to cycle.  Since you have just one piece of LR in there you may even want to wait until the foam/rock wall is in place to give your bacterial filter time to grow into the foam and dry rock,

Just FYI, IIRC my sterile tank took 6 weeks to fully cycle.

Good point! I thought about putting some rock from my reef into the horse tank, but the risks outweigh the benefits. I am just going to take the time to let the cycle play out. I might get my horses in time for Christmas at the rate that I am going.

I got the foam today and started the wall, but I ran out of foam. I underestimated how much foam it would take and only ordered one can. brickwall.gif
