Sad Sad Sad day....

I have bought a clown trigger from lfs over 5 years ago.
It was size of a quarter and it soon became everyone's favorite fish due to her great colors, personality. It grew to be 4" long.

Now I'm writing this because last night, Nathan (my son)'s favorite fish has gone to join my son in heaven.

 

She has been with me for over 5 years and it made me cry how much my son adored him...

She was suffering with alot of ick...

Established tank of 5+ yrs with nothing new introduced in over a year... exception of some corals but they are from my friend's coral only tank and I know for a fact that their water is in pristine condition.

 

why ick all of sudden?

This has happened all because I bought bad RO water from another lfs that just opened instead of getting my water from the usual guys.

I don't care if it's incompetence or immoral but this should have been avoided.

How can you get a bad RO/DI water? Aren't they brand new? Is that even possible? Apparently so, since there was reading of so many particle floating around in the water when I tested it. Made me wonder if they gave me water straight from tap.

 

It has been a sad sad day.

Sorry for your loss.

If you bought RO fresh water there is no way that that is the source of ich. Ich is a fish parasite and is transmitted from tanks, water, equipment, even hard corals, that have been exposed to infected fish tanks.

Unless it is ro water from there tanks...but even tap water will not contain ich.

OH MY....That video is beautiful...and I don't mean the fish  ;)

 

I think we talked about thiws before....more then likely you had ich in the tank .....the fish were all healthy and stress free....you mentioned that something happened not too long ago to stress them out.....That probably made the ich able to effect the fish.....once on them...well....you are seeing the results....  :(    I am sooo sorry for your losses

Bigarn - thank you so much.

 

Beth, Darth - I'm thinking that bad batch of RO (aka straight tap water) gave my fish enough stress to cause ich. My friend has separate tank for corals only and I'm 99% for sure that it doesn't contain any ich. Thanks for the kind words... 

 

Lois - Thanks as always. ALK was bit high on my tank. But it always was a bit high side on my tank and only my corals were affected by it. (xenia wouldn't grow at all..)

Only other thing that I mentioned was this incident which led to death to my clown trigger and frog spawn coral and red brain coral. Both me and my wife spent hours looking at these videos of my boy and his clown trigger and just cried while holding each other... I'm dead tired working a double right now... Wish I can be at home to take some rest...

Thank you guys... I wish I don't lose any more to this non-sense because I can barely handle this right now.

My protein skimmer decided to take a dump on me this morning so I gotta check that out tonight... sigh.. when it rains, it really does pour...

Ich is introduced on infected fish. A water change may cause stress and may cause ich to overwhelm the fish, but the ich would have already been there.

Did you friend acquire any new corals recently?

Ich can also be introduced on rocks, corals, snail shells. While not as common, I've seen it happen.

Yes, it can, which is why I asked if the friend had new corals in his tank. The culprit is still contact with infected fish.

Thanks guys... here's another video of him..

 

 

Honestly I can't watch the videos without crying, I'm really happy to share him with you and makes me proud that such a cute kid was mine for 2 short years...

It makes me smile.

 

more bad news... my purple psedo is also dead as well as my flame angel...

I was able to fix the skimmer after cleaning it thoroughly..

 

My friend's tank hasn't had any new addition. This is his own private tank at his house and he grows it in their to frag it.

He frags it there and brings it to his store. I got it in the bag because he told me what he was bringing. I did get another piece from a new pet store and that could be the only other culprit. Ich coral + straight tap water = cocktail of death...

 

Did 10g water change today. Doing a 30g water change tomorrow....

It really does pour these days...

He and that trig definitely had a relationship. He'll be happy to have him with him in heaven.

I'm surprised, as I thought sids was more for infants, children under 1.

SIDs can indeed happen to older children, but the numbers are low at that point. But siptang said his little one past with SUDs, which is Sudden Unexplained Death syndrome, which can happen at any age.

 

I'm so sorry for your loss and your lack of answers. :-(

You guys are the reason I keep coming back here.  It's not just about fish...it's about people. 

 

I agree that the ich was already present and stress allowed it to get the better of your fish.  It's a hard road you've been given, my friend.  I don't envy you in the least.  Yet, you give me strength and hope.  Don't give up.  We'll be here to help as long as you need us.  How is your poly filter looking?
