I felt the need to talk about my old tank even after all these months since although every-things done and dusted i want to share with you me and my mums amazing journey through SW. Here it is.

first tank when my dad went to fetch it i was really excited 75 gallon bow front stocking list

1 spot domino damsel

1 tomato clown-fish

1 ebili angel

1 yellow tang

The tank started as an FOWLR and when the tank was being set up we noticed a nem that had appeared from nowhere the clown fish took to it immediately.

The great bristle worm infestation

This was a problem bristle worms were everywhere i am sure many people on this board know the bristles are a great member of the CUC Not this time we had loads so 2 weeks after we got it (the infestation was noticed as soon as the sand had settled) we started to cure the rock and clean out the tank no water no sand no nothing (The temporary residence for the fish was a 30 gallon the fish were only in for about a 4 days whilst the rock was cured ) with no substrate and no rock-work water-changes where done daily. (tang police please do not come for me).

After that everything went smoothly untill we lost the eibli angel and gave the domino away. Then  we had a bit of good luck the clown got less timid and then we lost him to ick.(we have lost a lot of fish and ever dingle one was lost to ick). One day i came home from school to find him sitting in a glass bowl (  we sold the 30 gallon so that we had more money for the tank ) The bowl was a makeshift qurantine. unfortunately he didn't make it and he died the next day. Once the clown had died Mum decided to get a bigger tank the 140 but thats another story.

P.S tang police that was when we were inexperienced hobbyists.

Thanks for sharing. Lots of folks post when they begin a new tank and we can follow along during the cycling, choosing the equipment...the numerous stock list changes...it's allot of fun.

even if you have never done SW fish before, used is the way to go. It costs a fortune to start a tank from scratch. Even two little 30gs that I had gotten for $40.00 bucks was $1000.00 by the time I was ready for critters.

To have used equipment that functions is just fine and prudent. You can always upgrade slowly on a budget as you go along.

Flower, you are sooo right! I purchased an Oceanic BioCube under the impression that "It comes ready to go! Just buy a hydrometer, salt, live sand, test kit, RO water, add fish, live rock, and a heater. It's excellent for beginners!" (says the LFS guy)

I had no idea that little by little as I read and researched and looked for guidance on this site that the cost of the actual BioCube was just a fraction of the overall cost!!

Later comes the part where I have to purchase...

-a digital thermometer (I had another, but I wanted better accuracy)

-a refractometer (I had a hydrometer, but wanted better accuracy)

-protein skimmer

-power head(s) (those come next month!)

-an additional heater for water preparation

-MagFloat algae scrubber

-Feeding tongs

-Purigen

-Chemipure Elite

-Filter Floss

-A larger tub to prepare water with

I'm sure there are lots of things I've forgotten but those are just a few! Eventually I'll have to add better lighting in order to have some soft corals and a bubble anemone. I'm still making improvements and adding things little by little...
