They're actually a cross between a snowflake and a black Ocellaris clown. Supposedly they'll turn black or almost completely black as they grow (except for the white). They're definitely forming a pair, and the one that seems to be the male is turning much darker that the female, which other people who have these have claimed seeing the same thing.

That article, in Coral Magazine, has made my husband go on a never ending hunt to get his hands on one of the Lightining Maroon Clowns. If they ever become a little easier to get, I'm sure we will be dropping quite a bit of money on a silly clownfish, lol

Thanks! They're really cool, very social. I hope they stay nice, my Ocellaris pair got aggressive as they matured. Of course they only wanted to eat human flesh, and left other fish alone, but I'd still like to not get bit every time my hand goes in the tank!

I guess if it's a girl, Darla isn't a good name to go with! Lol

Yes, this is the Magazine I am referring to. I had to go on a hunt to look through my subscriptions. It's funny really, I have Coral Magazines from 2004And earlier. always a nice refference guid to keep on hand.

The ones I keep close at all times are the DSB and the article on Nitrates. But back to the clowns, I like the "Grumpy" clowns. The lighting clowns are very rare and almost made a purchase in Hawaii. A Gentleman out there had two of them and was unable to keep them any longer. He sold one to a biologist friend and I almost took the other for $20.00. With my job though, I would have had to fly him home in the cockpit and I didn't think he would have survived. They are one mean clown fish. his would take on the Triggers if they came to close to their side of the tank. I believe this is the one you are referring to?

Yup, that's the one! I believe that Matt Pederson is going to attempt breeding them.
I have not been following him too closely with this, we've had our differences in the past, but here's his page on them: http://www.lightning-maroon-clownfish.com/
Here's the info on the black ice from ORA: http://www.orafarm.com/products/fish/clowns/black-ice-snowflake.html

I do plan on breeding these guys once they mature.

Well, you have an issue then. I have a wild caught clown that I had to hand feed for 2 weeks because he/she wasn't able to eat frozen. I put my hand in the tank and she curesses my hand and if I cup my hand, she lays in my palm. Sigh...... it's, man I hate this word, cute!

Hand feeding fish has some many benefits! It really helps if you ever need to catch a little terror in the tank. My old pair of clownfish ate from my hand until I let them have an anemone. That combined with them breeding made them very territorial with my hand. Almost all my other fish are hand fed except for my new Resplendent Anthias harem, they're going to take some work. Even my pistol shrimp and snowflake eel will take food out of my hand without being aggressive.

I believe it builds a trust and acceptance with our fish friends. My clown has a anemone and is still as friendly as the day I put her in. Hmmmm maybe it's because there is no mate? Maybe huh?

If you had a mated pair that were guarding eggs I believe you would see a difference in personality.

Maybe, I am currently QT'g another wild caught clown and having to do the same in order for it to eat. It would be interesting to see.

Me and my mum can't put our hands in the tank without our percula biting us last time she did rearranging in the tank the clown had to be caught in a net and kept in there till she finished. LOL

We used to have to net ours as well, or put the net near them so they'd be too afraid to swim past it. When we moved to the new house, I decided not to put them back into the main reef so that I could work in it without being attacked. It also made it easier to collect eggs since they were a spawning pair.

I think your Black Ice do not come from ORA,  The pattern seems to come from the same lineage as mine.

Did you get them in the MR swap?

No, Mike at Tropical Island ordered them for me and I was there when he opened the sealed box from ORA. They're definitely from ORA.
