What is this snail??

I need to know if this is a reef safe creature!! just found it tonight, thanks.

It's a Buccinid Whelk.

 

It will act as a scavenger until it runs out of carrion.  When that happens it will attack and eat snails, limpids, or any other creature it can catch.  It is safe with corals.

I have one or two of these in my tank. Maybe this is the reason my smaller snails slowly and randomly died over the course of 3 months....?

I think this snail is still killing my snails but I cant seem to find him anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trap this thing?

Put a chunk of some type of seafood on the sand bed.  It should come looking for it.
