New Algae Scrubber Design - Prototype - Page 2

Sounds to me like you experienced a power surge.  Hard to imagine the whole apartments power cut out over an arc fault in one socket.

Sorry to hear that Snake, this is one of the reasons I want to make the lights in a protective cover.  I didn't think that could happen to those lights.  Makes me wonder if these algae scrubbers are worth the worry with things like this happening.

It might be worth going with a little more protection Al.  AFCI breakers are now standard code down here.  I'm probably going to install them along with GFCI's for the outlets to make sure I'm covered on both sides.

LOL! I would say they are for sure! I'm not deterred from using an algae scrubber at all. I just made a stupid mistake and didn't seal in the light bulbs. There's all kinds of precautions you can take to make sure that what happened to me doesn't happen to you. Plus, I might have over-exaggerated just a little bit in my description (not much though, laughing.gif) It still scared the crap out of me.

Thanhks for the info guys, funny I went into my shop this morning and built some splash guards for my AS - that is another reason I want to rebuild with everything sealed kinda like SantaMonica has.

Cleaned the reef AS scrubber the other day, here are some pictures I took, now I haven't seen this kind of growth before the algae was thick and green on the bottom half but the top half was black.  THis is about two weeks of growth, I had to cut it with scissors.

Dry that stuff out and send it to me so I can feed it to my LMB!!

That thing looks like me when I don't shave for a couple of weeks.

Nice growth on the bottom.  I can see it pulling some nutrient out of the water column.  How are your parameters these days going for ya?

Everything has been good - test a week ago - testing tomorrow again.  The problem I am finding though with this being built in a glass tank that this algae is growing on the glass as well, I have to take the tank down to scrub, mind you i should clean the screen every week.
