used water container for top off water

Is there a way to clean out a plastic 55g drum that was used for automotive car wash soap to make it safe for use as a water top off container? I can get these really cheap and they are perfect size for my fish room, But I don't know if any leftover residue might not be able to be gotten clean? Any ideas?

wash, rinse, repeat. Let it sit out in the sun and "bake." Wash, rinse, repeat.

Soap isn't a problem at all. :D

True question is, was that REALLY ALL that it was used for? I don't know how leaching occurs or at what rate, but it is always in my mind......

they are containers for car washs. the containers were new before they put the soap in them. I was concerned about the leaching too. That's why I asked.

I'll try it I guess. Wash it out a ton of times and then put a couple gallons of vingar in there and roll it around for a while.

Thanks
