ICH? Possibly... It's Wierd

Hello, everyone. Ok. Before anyone asks in my tank is a yellow eyed tang, a firefish goby 4 maragrita snails, 1 turbo snail, 2 peppermint shrimp and 2 clownfish. Now both the clownfish and tang, died of Ich, I believe. The tang had started to lose its color and was acting funny for like 3 weeks, but got worse all of a sudden and died. Then the clownfish would hang out at the bottom of the tank and not come up to eat. Now this is wierd to me the goby is not sick he eats day and night and is out swimming. What happened? Also, there are some white things on the glass walls of my tank, it looks like they move sometimes, and the goby eats them off the wall, what is this? Thanks to all!

How big is the tank? I think that the things that the gobies eat off the wall are most likely copepods (good things).

Pics would be very helpful.

Oh, and welcome to the site!!!

I may sound rude in this post, I don't mean too: Please do your research before you buy your fish, not after......

The tang would have died anyways... no matter what you would have done.... WAYYYYYYYY too small of a tank.

I think it could be a variety of causes... how much live rock do you have in the tank? Live sand or crushed coral? How much of it? What filtration do you have? What do your water parameters average (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, etc.)?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions... but their all necessary in finding out why the fish died... and what could prevent more fish deaths.... but I think that the tang and clown undoubtedly died of stress.... did you see any little white spots on the fish before they died???

I know tangs require a lot of space but I bought him on a whim. I have the crushed coral type 30 lbs I just have a simple filter, i have 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and like 20 nitrate. I have no idea how much live rock. I only saw a lot of white spots on one of my clowns. And the tang as well but not the other clown.

Yes, but there is probably ich in other life form stages living in your tank. What brand or model of filter is it????

Yeah... .that works IMO...

commercial Ick treatments do not work....... sorry to tell you that.

If you really want to cure your fish of ick, you'll have to perform hypo-salinity (doing water changes but not adding saltwater in the mix that's going back into the tank, gradually reducing your salinity levels)... in a qt tank..... and then keep your dt fishless for 8 weeks.

It's what you have to do if you want to cure it...

Dang my goby about to die. I was hoping just to do the treatment for the set amount of weeks then add a fish like 2 weeks after, and hope for the best. Is there any way to prevent ich?

Well.... that sure won't work.... because if you had ick in the first place... .which I think is the case.... it's STILL IN YOUR TANK... so if you add another fish... you know what will happen to it. (The same fate that your other fish have had)

Preventing Ich..... qt'ing all new fish.... for a couple of weeks...
here is some good info on ick that will help you....

I will switch to the boring life of freshwater if goby dies. Well, maybe it is not ich b/c the goby should have gotten it by now.
