Birds Nest

My birds nest coral used to be a very bright pink, and now its fading to orange and even turning white. I know its die`ing.

Wondering what could be the cause.

My tank is 125 Gal 6 foot.

water parameters are inline. Nitrates are 3ppm. Ammonia 0ppm.

Lighting

2 T5's. ( non Actinics. All white no blues)

2 Metal Halides

2 Moonlight LED's.

Right now its sitting in the top of the tank. with fair flow and extremely lighting?

I was wondering if i could put it on sand bed? what was thought on it.

Id really like to save this coral and get it back to its bright pink color. but it might be a little too far gone.

This happens to them a lot. As the colony grows, algae has an easier time settling in to the base and it's harder for flow to get in there to keep the algae from forming. It blocks lighting. Might have been what happened to yours.

Loosing color is usually caused by not enough light. How fast have you noticed the base turning white?

What's your calcium and alkalinity look like? How about phosphates and pH? How old are your bulbs?

I don't see any powerheads in your tank. Do you have a closed loop system?

You're dosing, but what are your readings before and after? Are you keeping levels consistent?

What do you keep your salinity at?

I changed out one of the metal halide bulbs and cleaned the under glass of the bulb... HOLY does it make a difference in the light.. guess i should have replaced these bulbs months ago.

If it were me I would break the colony in half and buy another powerhead dedicated to providing flow for the two Birsnest colonies.    Intense light + intense waterflow.

You might end up just having to frag it.
