Hi all,
I have a fairly new 29-gallon tank set up. My boyfriend has a 125 that's been up since June. We have a disease running rampant in both of our tanks right now. The closest I have matched it to is marine velvet but I wanted to get some input. At first we noticed the white spots and immediately thought ich- treated with API's Super Ick Cure with no luck. After more research I thought maybe velvet, so we've been treating the sick tank with copper- still no luck, the fish are still dying and not getting better. The fish have the tiny white dots that is described with velvet, but present no other symptoms. They have the white dots for a week or more, still eat, don't present respiratory problems, no flashing/scraping against rocks, and otherwise act normal up until death. We have a pair of black clownfish that have had the white dot appearance/paleness of color for several weeks now. It is looking more like white streaks than dots now. Other than looking really rough, they act normal as well.
I have lost a coral beauty angel, two clownfish, and a royal gramma so far. I have a red scooter blenny and cleaner wrasse that are doing fine, and a flame angel that I am currently treating. The clownfish didn't present any symptoms, but the angel and gramma both presented the white dots. They were acting fine otherwise up until they died. The angel did lose color about 12 hours before death. He's lost a jack knife and a pearl scale butterfly.
So, does this sound like marine velvet to you guys? Something else? Treatment ideas? Thanks in advance.
