Thanks. I will have to look for the exact color I want for the bottom then. BTW, I picked up ball valves for the overflow and the return. I thought I needed to put one on both so I could shut the water off if I ever needed to. For the return pump, I am gonna get the danner mag 3 and I think I am gonna get that skimmer you mentioned. So, gonna start working on the sump.

NEVER put a ball valve on an overflow. There is no reason to stop the water, and if you look at the inside of the ball valve, it would severly restrict the flow. I repeat, DO NOT put a ball valve on overflow plumbing.

I like your other two choices. Can't wait to see some water!

You will be very happy with that skimmer... here's a pic of three days of skimmate. :D

Even with the algae scrubber going full force. lol

I actually kinda think it's starting to really compete with my scrubber. I guess I'm not feeding my fish enough for my filtration. lol!!!

Well, I bought the paint for the bottom of the tank today. It probably won't be noticeable, but I got the textured kind. It is alabaster, stone textured. I wonder how it will do? I also ordered my leds the other day. They will be shipped monday. I went with the Cree 60 watt dimmable fixture. Next is the sump. Will need some help. The exact measurements for the glass, etc.

Well, after a couple coats, I can say that this paint is looking good. When I am done with it, I will post pics of the tank as it is now. :)

Sweet! Glad you are making some progress. A pic of it would be nice to see what you've accomplished.

Thanks. Not too shabby for a person who has never painted a tank before lol. I am getting there. Slowly but surely...thumbsup.gif

Not at all!  Are you going to leave it barebottom?

Yep, for now atleast. Something different I guess. It actually looks nice too. :)

It sure does look nice. Great job!

How well does the texture show up?

Looks great, head up warning most of the texture paints are not waterproof you must seal them with clear coat. Trust me just a few drops could kill all your hard work. Please check your paint and seal if you have to.

Christopher, the paint is on the underneath of the glass bottom. Not inside.

It seems to show a little, which makes it actually look like sand. It shows light and dark areas mixed and to me makes it look more like sand. More realistic. :)

I read that on the can. I was wondering whether or not to seal it due to the moisture from the sump. shrug.gif

Aren't you going to sit your tank on a foam block/ styrofoam to help your tank "settle in" and level out? I guess you could use some of that polyurethane if you have it left over... shrug.gif

Wasn't going to. the stand has a little bit of wood that sticks up on each side and holds the tank in place. I will see if it is level when I put it on the stand in the location I want. I do have some polyurethane left, so I guess I could use that if it would work..

I don't see why it wouldn't work. You would just have to let the tank sit upside down for a day or so for it to cure. I don't see any problems - unless someone else is more knowledgeable about it.

With your tank not being very big, I wouldn't worry about setting it on styro, TBH. I didn't set mine on it. But, I am going to set my much larger tank on it for sure.

Any other updates? How's the sump coming along?

Looking good luvmyreef

Thanks Al.  I think that I am gonna have my husband install a shelf in the stand, right below the tank. That will help keep the bottom of the tank dry and provide me a needed place for stuff. :) As far as other updates, I should be getting my leds tuesday. My plan is to get the glass from lowes this weekend and start work on the sump. I still dont know which design to go with. I like them both. But I have decided not to split the overflow. But question for ya, where the overflow comes down into the sump, what do I need to get for that? Should I get a filter sock mount, etc. I want to run carbon in this tank, so opinions needed. Need input from you diy peeps...lol. I am thinking I should get 1-9 inch tall X 9 3/4 wide baffle, and 3-7.5 inch tall X 9 3/4 baffle. Sound right?
