Attention math all math nerds!

I have been thinking about this for a few days and I can not seem to come to a definite conclusion.

Here it is:

Count on your fingers the numbers 6 through 10.

How many is it?

Now what is 10 minus 6?

Now, explain why I got five for the first question and four for second?

You counted 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 on the first.  The second, you did the math.

I suck at math. Lol.

I barely got though calculus and advanced physics in college. Don't know how I did it.

When subtracting, the starting number is not counted as a unit.  When counting objects the starting and ending numbers are included.  This is why so many people have a difficult time providing the start & end dates of a 14 day vacation - the difference in dates is only 13 and yet it involves 14 days.

Interesting you bring this up as even the most math proficient have made this error during a translation and rotation problem involving differential equations with abstract algebra as applied toward quantum events.

I love this joke, and use it liberally...
