Hello,

I'm looking to switch my reef tank lights to LEDs. I have a 6 bulb T5 system currently and looking to switch to LEDs any suggestions? How many 3 watt PAR bulbs would i have to get to keep my tank at the same level of PAR with my T5 system. Its a 5 foot tank 24inches deep. Any suggestions or help will be awesome. Lighting is my weakest part with reef tanks

THANKS

How handy are you at DIY stuff?

I would think a possibly 3 bulbs, but that could be dependent on how high above the surface they are, and as far as trying to compare PAR I don't think that would or honestly is the most accurate way of trying to figure what you need.  Have you put a meter on your system to measure what you think your getting......I think some of the PAR numbers/readings are subjective, and to many variables to say they are complete or close to accurate......

Not the most mechanical when it comes to DIY...I was looking at ecoxitc Par 38 light bulbs. Would 4 or 5 of them work for my tank?

4 or 5 sound about right, but depends on optics if any!!!!

I have a 120 and I only needed to buy 2 Aqua Illuminations Sol Blues.  I love them and think they are an amazing product.  Had them for over a year now

Are you able to grow all coral? healthy?

Yes my coral are very healthy.  I have had a problems with Acros but it had nothing to do with my lights.

LEDs are more than capable, but as Cam pointed out there's more to the equation than just lights.
