Magenta / Burgundy colored algae over our live rock and sand

Hi folks,

In the last few days I have noticed algae has carpeted the live rock and sand in our tank 30 gallon Nano Cube.  We were able to do a few water tests:

Ammonia:     0.25

Nitrate:         0.20-0.25

PH:              7.5 - 8

I ran out of chemicals to test the other needs in the water column until tomm.

Any ideas what might be happening?

Thanks,

Todd

Welcome to swf.....we need more info than that.

how old is the tank?  Do you have a picture?  Any fish in it?  what is the filtration you use?  Any powerheads?

etc   etc

Does it come off easily?  Sounds like Cyanobacter.

We have two power heads, the filter system is three stage: it has carbon, it has a sponge and the bio matter.

We have several fish.  The tank was setup in September of last year.

Thoughts??

TIA

Looks like Cyano as well.  This is usually caused by a combination of insufficient waterflow and excess Phosphate.  Siphoning it out helps but the cure is to discover where the phosphates are coming from and to increase waterflow.
