Tips on seeding a tank with copepods if you don't have a fuge?

Hi all.

I've wanted a Mandarin for a while now (and my wife loves them too) but I've never got one because of their specific feeding requirements and the fact that I don't have a refugium on my tank.

But then I got too thinking...

What if I were to get live pods, and then at night after the lights have been off for a while and the fish are sleeping I turn off the filter and skimmer for an hour or so and put the pods in? And then repeat the process several times over a period of a few weeks?

You think after doing this for several weeks the tank would be "seeded" enough for a Mandarin?

I'm guessing others will say this will be a futile effort without a "refuge" for the pods to multiply.

You might be able to increase the odds by making an area of rock rubble that the pods can occupy out of the reach of the mandy.

Or, get yourself an in-tank refugium.

Or, spend $20 per week replenishing pods.

+1 or a HOB refugium, both work great for pods......and I also read something else interesting, you have to acclimate them. I always dumped them in and in a few weeks I didn't have anything left. I was ordering from a site that ONLY sells pods, and they said if you want to give live food just dump them in...however to seed a tank or refugium to acclimate them about 1 hour before releasing them with lights off.

+ 3 and it also depends on the other fish in your tank, they maybe in competition for the pods as well.

Excellent point, I know a Sixline will wipe a tank clean of pods in no time.
