Hi,

Wow...you have lots to think about. First, a 55g is too small for the tangs. Personally I think something died and caused the new spike in ammonia. Maybe a hitchhiker, or overfeeding...what kind of CUC do you have in the tank. (CUC = Clean Up Crew of snails, hermit crabs and serpent stars...such critters eat any dead critters and keep our tank clean of algae)

It is way too soon to try an anemone, they require very strong lights and near perfect water. The pet store water is not the cause of your problems. Unless you have not made sure of the SG.

Wait the 8 weeks to be sure the ich is gone. Damsels are evil little fish and unless you want a tank of solely aggressive fish, their death was a blessing in disguise. They even get to where they bite your hand drawing blood when they mature.

Get these two books to help you decide what to stock your tank with after the 8 weeks have past.

A page so you can see the info it offers

always assume ANY fish possibly has a disease unless you are getting it from a fellow hobbyist and he hasnt added anything to his tank in a few months....

Better safe than sorry...always
