Ph test: is there a difference saltwater/freshwater?

I mistakenly bought a freshwater Ph test kit.

Can I use it on saltwater?.

Is there a correction to make to adjust to a saltwater Ph reading?

I don't think it matters, as long as it can test up to a pH of 8.5 or as low as 7.5. If it can do that range reasonably well, I don't think it's an issue. I hope someone else can shed some light on the subject. I don't use freshwater test kits for my saltwater tanks, so it would be nice to know.

the only difference is usually low range high range. if it'll read up to 8.3 and higher your fine

 

generally freshwater ph kits wont test high enough of a ph to be usable.

Thanks for the help.

The freshwater Ph test kit from"Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Inc." tests from 6.0 (light yellow) to 7.8 (medium blue).

I'm tempted to push the limit and try to get a darker blue which should be in "our" range.

Make sense?

beyond 7.8 you wont get an accurate reading the "darker" could be indicitave of any ph you wont be able to tell what it really means. so in all fairness  it makes little sense to "push it" as you wont know what you have at all. you'll just be guessing and very innaccurate. I would spend the 6$ on a new kit.
