My nitrates are .20 or 20 however you write it. Is that too high?

in a reef tank I prefer to keep my nitrates at an undetectable level. so In my opinion yes they are too high.

Is is a dangerous level? I don't have a reef tank

 If you have inverts you don't want nitrates any higher. Fish don't seem to care. Coral really hates them. Maybe small daily water changes will help better than once a month or week.

Just kinda curious why did you post this in the reef section if you only have fish

If you have fish only, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Ah, sorry you posted this in the reef section so I assumed it was a reef tank, my bad.  20 PPM isn't bad for a fowlr tank, lower is always better but not always attainable.   I would say "comfortable for your fish" would be no higher than 40ppm though I have seen fish live fine in higher I wouldn't subject my animals to it. I know 100PPM can be extremely toxic to marine fishes.
