there are some people i see looking to make their own food.this is what i do.i go to the thailand supermarket and get all raw seafood.they dont always have the same stuff so this is what i got this time.

full baby squid, clams, sardines with the heads cut off and krill.the kill there is $2.99 at petco its i think around $10.

also added a big sheet of nori and zoe vitimins.

it makes 4 batches and should last me 3-4 months.but if after 4 months if that i will toss it so it dont get too old and freezer burnt.

looks similar to how I make it!

This maybe a noob question, but is there any reason you want sardines with the heads cut off instead of heads intact?

something to make it easier,,, either the old jello molds to freeze it in (or mini ice cube molds) and to vacuum pack in food saver bags like a weeks worth individually..

Id have food for a year with what you have there, lol

Thanks for posting this Jeff. The wife and I just made ours yesterday and man did the kitchen smell "fishy"!! Bwahahahahaaaa.

Your brew is much whiter than ours though. With the left overs I put in some R/O and blend it and use it for the corals. Nice stuff there...... MMMM MMMMM

Yes, we have separate stuff and with what we do use we clean and bleach very well.

What we get is the following.....

1) white fish fillet and a small salmon fillet

2  raw shrimp and clams and oysters

3) fish roe

4) nori of coarse

5) emerald entree cubes

4) rotifers and a small slab of mysis

5) half bottle or so of SELCON

Total cost..........$25 and last 3-4 months.

Dice by hand first and then put into the chopper. Put into ice cube trays and freeze.

With my coral food, I grab the left overs in the chopper add R/O and selcon/coral amino, and blend for 1 minute, let sit, blend again for 2 min. let sit, blend for 3 min. Then I let it sit until the foam and water separate. Turkey baster and suck up the water at the bottom and freeze with a little foam at the top. Coral Capichino!! (sp) Wala!!

LOL NUMMMM...

I think that was always my problem for making fish food...

Id go buy a whole bunch of nice fresh scallops, clams, and fresh fish and always ended up making a bouillabaisse!

OF COURSE id throw in a few fresh clams for the triggers, lol

The guys at the seafood place know who we are and what were buying for, hahaha. These fish eat better than us at times! What's that about??

I always substituted Cod Liver Oil for the Selcon but Selcon is a good product.  Laver is also good if you can find it.  Bay Scallops are also good and cheap.

Got a recipe for stuff you can get at walmart.  I live out in the sticks... and I can promise you there are no Asian grocery stores around me to get this stuff.

Oh no...... we get things from the grocery too. Squid, raw shrimp, bay scallops. white fish. We just have to make sure none of it is cooked already. I will not buy the salmon there though, they put a dye it it to make it look red.

In this new batch we added tuna. Wow the fish go stupid for that stuff, even the corals open for a chance at it!

Raw shrimp... I know I can get (providing I dont hurl)... the rest Im not sure if I have available to me.  I'll have to go check and see while Im out an about.  Im pretty sure my walmart dont carry squid.  We're just a bunch of rednecks around here LOL

They may carry squid in with the clams and other mussle type foods. I know they typically have like a seafood mix you can get. I have seen those at every walmart I have ever been. Good luck tho.

You can get scallops, which can definitely be used in homemade fish food. I'm going to start making my own food again. I will go to my wal-mart and pick everything up and post a list of what I got.
