Phosban Reactors

A reactor is a great idea for a reef tank...pros...no phosphate so you have a heathier tank

cons...it cost more money to run your tank ..GFO is something like $21.00 a pound.

I wouldn't get my reactor from the LFS...go Bulk Reef Supply (BRS) online. I just purchased a great duel carbon and phosphate reacter. Both are very helpful in a reef since carbon keep the coral from chemical warfare. BRS has a great heavy duty duel reactor for $60.00, $80.00 with a pump.

I purchased a duel GFO phosban and carbon reactor fo r the 90g reef...I hooked it up yesterday.  I didn't attach it to the wall since I have trouble getting on my knees, and the instructions said to mount it low, as close to the sump level as possible...So I mounted it on shelf turned vertical. I set it next to the tank and run the hoses, making it portable and easy for me to work on. No more having to put carbon in a nylon sac and finding a good flow area to hang it.

I went to marine depot and looked at the Two Fishes one, not sure if its that great, still putting the thoughts together.  Great little gizmo!

 

However, i did happen to find a really nice coral i liked at the lfs...... and its umm here.. . Its huge. 19 inches across. about 10 inches tall. and was super CHEAP!. Is it a live coral or a skeleton?

 

Right now i have it in an empty tank with just saltwater. so i can re aqua scape my aquarium. to fit this giant mother in there. If it's a live coral, like the fish, it can't handle the ammonia spikes and nitrites. So I hope your tank is cycled.

 

my monti has to be right under my 250 watt mh.i had it lower and it didnt grow .once i raised it the thing took off. so i hope you have some good lights.

nice set up .that thing will do great under that lighting

I am running a NextReef MR1, and i love mine, It sits outside my sump and does not leak, comes with it's own pump! I love mine!

I have heard that the two fishes leaks, so best kept inside the sump!

The Two little fishies....Mine doesn't leak at all...Its small and handy, very easy to maintain. I have it on the SH tank. My only complaint about any reactor is that you have to dial the outflow down so you have the water flow very slow to be effective, and it makes the pump vibrate and make noise. This is also true of the BRS  duel reactor I just set up for the 90g.

Have had mine for quite a while...and as long as the top is on it does not leak...LOL

LOL...you jinxed me, I was messing with the sump this morning and accidently detached the hose...I got it quick no harm done. I'm almost afraid to read any posts declaring troubles with leaks or breaks.
 

i think the snake jinx is done for now.i just got done setting up my reactor with the gfo.got the gfo bounceing on the bottom.seems to be running perfect.now eat up those phosphates already

LOL...strange how that goes isn't it?

My two little fishies reactor has the GFO bouncing on the top...The BRS has them bounce on the bottom, I thought something was wrong and I kept watching it, thinking it would reverse.

I got the duel one with a carbon reactor, It sure makes it easier to run the carbon...no more looking for a nice spot where the water flows good.
 

Lol, I mean that's what i have heard, The only reason i didn't purchase one is because it doesn't come with a pump, and the price of a pump and reactor comes out to the same price of my Next Reef which is bigger and comes with a adjustable pump!
