Overflow box extension?

Hey guys, quick question, i have a HOB overflow box on my 125 and was wondering is there wa a way to get the overflow box lower than it possibly is?

A little hard to explain but ill try, im looking to buy a wavebox for the tank and i just finished a 5 he water change lol. Now im getting my tank ready for the wavebox which i can possibly get next week.

I have the overflow box at the lowest possibly point it can be. I measure the water level and it is at 3cm from the brim of the tank ( my tank has a small lip that hold the glass cover in place) the wavebox manual suggests a clearance level of 3-6 cm to make a decent wave
So is there anything i can get that would allow my overflow box to go lower a little more? Maybe they sell the box that goes in the tank with the screw hole higher than were the flow is?

I think you will have to find a different overflow.

+1.Not much you can do about that. There are some DIY kits online but they all require you to drill the tank and silicone an overflow box inside.

Hmmm ill check my lfs tomorrow, im thinking they will try to find me a new box which goes in the tank. I have a single u tube - single down pipe overflow, i mean it shouldnt effect the amount of water going into the wet/dry correct?

What type of overflow are you currently running.....Is it a 1 piece unit or 2 pieces.......

Before you go making mad waves, make sure you stand can handle it......

Its a 2 piece overflow. And i have checked with my lfs to ensure the adhesive in the glass is good. Also its on a wooden decorative stand, again lfs said it would be fine. Im looking to get a nice little wave inthe tank, nothing more than like 2 cms just to add some flow and possibly towards the sand bed. I have a great deal on a tunze nano wavebox and ive seen videos of it and it seems perfect. Ive researched it and people say how great it is and also ive seen how fish react to it and people say they seem much happier and more active.

I'm a big Tunze fan myself.....

How are the 2 halves of the overflow box held together......Any pics of the unit itself....Honestly I don't think lowering the internal portion of the overflow box is going to do much......I think you'll probably fine your overflow will fluctuate regardless, which might be an issue.....

A little late to take pictures but heres a link to what mine looks like http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/images/products/display/Aqueon125Overflow.jpg

As you can see there is a plastic screw that hold the box to the part that hangs on the tank. Also if you look closeunder the screw is aopenigto lower te overflow. Currently i have mine set to the lowest and it has about a 3 cm gap. Im watching the videos and i mean even the smallest waves make a huge difference which im looking for.

I have my overflow set to the center of the tank, and according to the manual the center is like were the height of the wave never changes ( basically you see the wave going up and down in the corners of the tank mostly. Im trying to search for a video of the water level without the wavemaker on and then with it on... Cause im not 100% sure but it looks like the maximum height ofthe wave is were the actual water line is ( lol im terrible at describing things)

You have a tunze acr? Ive heard the box is very effective over all wavemakers... Do you have one? Any possible wayto record a video of your water level before and after the tunze is on?

you could just build an overflow from pvc.

I was assuming that was the type of overflow you were talking about.....You could possibly drill a mounting hole lower and move the internal box downward if you want to lower the inside box.  Not sure if that will help, but worth a shot....I'm just not sure if lowering the inner box will affect the U tube and not really sure how the up and down change will affect the U tube reliability once the wavebox is setup.

I never purchased a wave box.  Price being the big issue...The other issue I wanted a clean setup with very little intrusion inside the tank as possible, so that definitely ruled the wave box out for me.  I had considered building my own utilizing Tunze PH's and building my own box and controller.  As I pointed out before the box inside the tank was the deciding factor.  Heck I had a heck of a time stomaching putting Vortech's inside my display....

I don't have any readily available pics on my laptop, but if you browse through my build thread you'll see I have a pair of Tunze 6101's and with my size tank and (2) of those babies mounted on the back wall, and with really no tuning of the pumps with the controller I was actually able to produce a decent wave.  Again the 6101's are undersized for my setup, and with that in mind seeing what (2) undersized pumps could do was quite impressive.  I decided against the Tunzes only because of size.....bigger than the Vortech's, but everything has it's pros and cons IMHO.....

A big concern with the "wave fad" is that over time that motion does and will put undue stress on a tank.....No one can honestly say how much it is or how bad it is or how it will affect the longevity of the tank.....Again only time will tell, but I think Tunze does state that it can/could possibly be detrimental to you tank structure.  Again that's why I cautioned about the stand as well...

Browse my build thread, and the videos are around when I started water testing my tank......

Ohhh  i see what you mean, yea thats true i kinda forgot about that. Do you have a link to your thread? So basically tou hae 2 tunze 6101's set up and its making a decent wave? I was thinking about gettin hydro powerheads which also can be programmed and stuff. The only reason im lookif to add this wave is to 1. Have the coral sway in a nice looking way, and 2 to get the fish to kinda go with the current a swim into and stuff. Now that i think about it, the actual wavebow will probably result into the tank giveing out after some time which i definitly dont want... What would you suggest?

Couldn't you just drill the tank at the height you wanted and then attach an overflow box on the inside? That seems like the easiest option.

A super easy option if your building from scratch.

I had a friend come by and let me try out his wavebox... It worked ok we had a small wave going and the fish seemed to enjoy it but after anout 4 hours i notice some water coming out at the top and we had the pump at a low speed. Ill ditch the wavebox and possibly look into a vortech

Guess I should have read a little more, I didn't realize that his tank was already established.
