trying to make a 10 gallon sump/fuge. Overflow help!

Hello everyone!  I have read a few threads about overflows or drilling tanks.  I bought a used overflow a while ago at a frag swap and since I'm on vacation this week I thought I'd try to make a 10 gallon sump/refugium for my 46 bowfront.  I will take a picture of the overflow and put it here.  I guess my questions are how to set it up.  If the power goes out, I assume there is some sort of safety thing so that the tank doesn't overflow, but again, I have no idea what I am doing here.  I will take pictures to show you all what I have; hopefully with your help I can finally have my sump!  Thank You in advance!!!!
