I was thinking abut using a wet/dry for my oscar's tank....does a wet/dry work effectivly on freshwater too?

Should be fine! The one added advantage that I know of for wet/dry filters is the fact that they have a larger area for bacteria bed growth! Another reason would be a larger capacity of water.
