I knew I was addicted when.........I began cutting out of work early to check the LFS for new coral frags, I started looking for fish message boards, I now feel fish pain, I now try to educate nearly everyone I meet about the wonderful hobby, the decor of my apartment is starting to have a marine theme, I drive home from work thinking of different ways I can set up my Live Rock in the tank, and my last revalation..............I just took a part-time job at a reputable LFS working on a store-credit basis to support my obsession.

This isn't a joke, and it kinda took me back abit when it happened.
The local LFS has now memorized the contents of my tank. I went in a couple days ago and was looking at a yellow goby, and she said "he might have problems with your lawnmower blenny".
Apparently I spend too much time in there talking about my fish. :)

first, when i was in college and kept moving my classes later in the day each semester because i kept failing my first class of the morning. i kept saying just one more second then i will leave. never worked just kept failing the classes.
second, when i picked the hobby back up and kept finding tanks for free and taking them. 2 in the house, one dry in the garage, one in the in-laws office and an old reptile glass aquarium someone just left on my doorstep one day. i have since gotten ride of the two two that were not in use.

These are GREAT!! I can relate to WAY to many of them. Cheaper Vodka, debt, LFS(s) knowing my tank and all my family members I bring in. The bedroom....well with the ex, the tank was 2 feet from the bed, parallell. So you could have the best of both worlds. Now, it is in another room and I am seriously thinking of moving it BACK!! 1- You have all kinds of fish catalogs coming in.
2- You know exactly the price difference between online and
your LFS.
3- Your thumb and finger smell like fish food.
4- You can spot a used tank in the trash a block away.
5- You kiss up to the LFS guy just to get a deal.
6- You call home from work and ask hows the tank.
7- You say to yourself "I will never pay that much for that" and
then buy it anyway because it will look cool in your tank.
8- Your have fish themed items in your home.
9- You want the tank(s) if you ever divorced.
10-Your fish have their own space in the freezer for food.

1. I knew I was addicted when I set up my own reef tank website two days after I set up my reef tank!
2. I knew I was addicted when I started rushing into the house to hide what I bought from the LFS so my wife wouldn't see!
3. I knew I was addicted when I gave my bosses boss a half hour tour of my reef website on company time explaining the in's and outs of reef keeping!

...everytime our family goes on vacation (for instance Chicago last year), instead of going to the zoo, Science center, etc...we ended up going through the phone book and dragging the kids to all the fish and pet stores.
Just last month we went for a long weekend to the Toledo Zoo and only spent 3 hours there... the rest was spent driving around town to the fish stores around there (broomer territory).;)

1. When I moved my tanks from texas to georgia, I put all the water in styrofoam containers in my car that I was towing. They all leaked on my leather seats and left 3 inches of saltwater on the floor. When I found out, I screamed, "oh my god, my fish my fish". Screw the car.
2. I have trained the lfs to say the wrong price out loud when I check out with my wife. "That will be $12.00 for 20 pounds of live rock".

I knew I was addicted when I began spending every dollar of my paycheck on my Aquarium instead of repairing my car.

I was officially addicted when I started making fish lists for tanks I don't have yet, when there's no room for ice in my freezer because it's full of fish food and when I rush home after work to see if any sites have updated their WYSIWYG sections even though I'm too broke to buy anything!

Nice five year bump .. and by the way .. I knew I was addicted when I took the time to take a pic of my tank then copy pics of fish off the internet and photoshop them into my tank to see what they'd look like together instead of doing my Calculus Homework
