How many of you guys/gals have been involved in the scouting movement? I've been a Pack and Troop leader for the past 10 years. My oldest son received his Eagle last year. Middle son is in the Troop and the youngest is a Tiger Cub. How far did you get? Likes and dislikes? Any special memories?
We've been able to do a lot with our Troop in terms of travel/adventure. Heading to the New River Gorge this summer for some white water rafting. (second time there!)
How about you?

I am a Co-Leader in my areas Girl Scout troop... Our troop is the largest in the service unit and we combine three levels/age groups ( we have roughly 21 girls in our troop).. We do all sorts of local activities and are fortunate to have some really great girls and parents that are extremely involved!!! I love it!!! Even my 2 1/2 year old daughter has become a Daisy-In-Training, and participates in all the activities!!!

Yep, I was a girl scout up to high school. My 5th grader is a girl scout (cookies anyone??) And my first grader is a Tiger Cub and we are up to our eye balls in the Pinewood Derby car.
My Dad was an Eagle Scout so he has high hopes. :D

LOL! I hear that! I've helped build so many of those cars for my older two, you think I'd have the winning secret by now. Just yesterday my little guy asked when we were going to start on his car. Time to get out the old designs and let him choose one!:)

I will post a pic of the proud owner and his "road rocket" as he calls it after the stickers are on it. Rumor has it that there is a kid (Dad) who makes the same car and wins almost every year.
They take the piece of wood and cut it down to a flat piece about 1/4 inch thick and then glues washers on the front end to take it up to 5oz. Wheres the fun in that? I have been getting a kick out of Peter pain stakingly paint and fret over every inch of that car. Even down to the little "driver" we glued in there.
Not the best looking thing, but the just turned 7 year old had a blast with Dad and Grandpa (he has the tools) cutting and sanding it. :)

I joined cub scouts all excited about going camping, canoeing, rock climbing, etc.

What a disappointment! The pack I was in basically had us just build rather stupid (expecially while in 3rd grade) arts and crafts projects. I quit after about six months.

BSA regulations prohibit boys of Cub Scout age from participating in those activities. Once in Boy Scouts, they can do more high adventure types of activities. Cub Scouts is geared for the younger kids and there is a lot of cut and paste, at least until you get into Webelos. We manage to take our Cubs camping a couple times a year and they can canoe, row, shoot archery, and BB guns at summer camp.

Made it to Life, Order of the Arrow, then the troop I was in fell apart

Great times, learned a lot, and would encourage anyone to get involved.

High adventure trips - Appalachian Trail - two separate trips. 50 mile hikes - great fun.

Boundry water canoe trips out of Ely Minnesota. Unbelievable trip - except for deer flys and mosquitos - eat ya alive up there in summer. Skeeters reported to carry off your young !

Klondike Derby was always alot of fun - when we had snow ! We even participated in the derby in mud. Made for an interesting couple of days

Wow, I guess I can understand the internal regulations from preventing those activities. Still, those posters advertising for cub scouts (back than atleast) had rock climbing, archery, .22/bb shooting, camping, etc. While no pictures of building christmas tree ornaments and crocheting oven mitts! Still its a good organization to donate too!

Loved BSA.

Got my Eagle when I was 16. Been to Philmont and 97 National Jamboree. Encourage anyone interested to help out a troop or even have their boys start up cub scouts!
