Quite simply one of the most beautiful fish available to the hobbyist. The males upper 1/3 of their body and back is red the rest of their body is yellow, while the females body is entirely pinkish red. These beautiful fish can be kept in groups of one male with a few females. The flame wrasse is a sequential protogynous hermaphrodite, which means they are female first and one will turn into a male. If the male of the group dies, a female will turn into a male.At night, they wedge their bodies in small crevices and produce a mucus net that envelops their body.Provide rockwork and caves for these fish to feel at home. They will use the rockwork to hide if they feel threatened and to sleep at night.Feed twice a day for optimum health.Caution- this fish is a jumper- especially when first introduced into the aquarium. Cover the tank to prevent this fish from jumping out.
